About Roberto Orefice
Dr Roberto Orefice is a Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellow. He completed his undergraduate degree in Physiotherapy at the University of Sydney in 2004 and went on to complete his medical degree at the Australian National University in 2011. Roberto completed his FRANZCOG training in Canberra and Gosford.
Roberto is currently completing his subspecialty training in Maternal Fetal Medicine and his Diploma of Diagnostic Ultrasound (DDU). He has a special interest in preterm birth, nicotine addiction and perinatal loss.
Why does preventing early birth matter to you?
"Working in the field of Maternal Fetal Medicine, I face the devastating effects of both pre term birth and fetal loss on a regular basis. I am passionate about finding innovative and effective ways of addressing the risks factors associated with pre term birth and working collaboratively with families after a previous pre term birth in subsequent pregnancies to achieve the best outcomes for mother and baby."
"Preventing pre term birth often involves addressing various lifestyle and health issues that affects not only a mother and baby but their family as a whole. Early interventions with issues such as smoking cessation are health interventions that I feel can make a significant difference to the health of mothers and babies."
The Australian Preterm Birth Prevention Alliance is working to safely lower the rate of early birth across Australia.
